Using cameras
When you create a scene it contains only a camera and a directional light. This is the default camera for the scene and it is the preview camera for this scene. When a camera is a preview camera, you see the scene through that camera in the Preview. In the Project the preview camera is marked with (Preview).
Creating a new camera
You can create a new camera in these ways:
- In the Preview enter the Edit mode, move the free camera to the location where you want to create a new camera and click
.
Kanzi Studio creates a new camera in the position of the free camera. See Editing in the Preview.
- In the Project right-click the scene or any 3D object where you want to create a camera and select Create > Camera.

Turning a camera into a preview camera
When a camera is a preview camera, you see the scene through that camera in the Preview. In the Project the preview camera is marked with (Preview).
To turn a camera into a preview camera:
- In the Project double-click the camera you want to turn into a preview camera.
Or:
- In the Project select the scene where you what to turn a camera into a preview camera.
- In the Properties in property Camera > Preview Camera select the camera you want to use as a preview camera.
If the scene is not visible in the Preview even after you set a preview camera, you need to activate the scene. See Creating and making scenes visible.
Setting the projection type of a camera
To set the projection type of a camera, in the Project select the camera and in the Properties set the Projection Type property:
- Perspective to set the camera to show objects closer to camera larger than those that are further away. This is the projection type most commonly used for 3D scenes.
- Orthographic to set the camera to so that the distance from the camera does not affect the drawing size of objects. You can use an orthographic camera to show a 2D view of a 3D scene.
Using free camera to position objects
To set the position of any object using the free camera:
- In the Preview enter the Edit mode.
- Move around the scene in the Preview using the free camera controls.
- In the Project select the node that you want to move to the position of the free camera, and in the Preview click
.

Locking the free camera
If you use the tools in the Preview tools panel and want to prevent the movement of the free camera, lock the free camera.
To lock the free camera, in the Preview enter the Edit mode and click
